The hotel
perches on a 19-meter-high bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean, providing
one of the finest sunset views along the entire west coast of this
beautiful and peaceful Central American nation. The hotel and its
adjoining residential community are in Playa Junquillal, a small, friendly
town in Costa Ricas northwest province of Guanacaste. The Iguanazul is a
75-minute drive from the international airport in Liberia, the provincial
capital.
Hotel visitors and community property owners are
drawn here by the world class surf breaks, great fishing and pristine
beaches. Snorkeling, horseback riding, forest canopy tours, kayaking and a
host of other activities vie for the attention of vacationers and
residents alike. Although Playa Junquillal is only 25 kilometers south of
Tamarindo a larger, beachfront community made famous by The Endless
Summer surfing movies it features a more laid-back lifestyle and
tranquil atmosphere. Yet Tamarindo lies conveniently close enough for
those seeking a day of shopping or an evening of nightclubbing.
Hotel Iguanazul invites you to
come on down, relax and soak up the sun and waves. Hang out at our
ocean-view pool, restaurant or bar. Swim, stroll and collect sea shells on
any of several secluded, often deserted beaches directly in front and just
to the north and south of the hotel. The variety of beach terrain
enthralls our visitors: white sand, black sand, lava flow rock formations.
Surfers from around the
world pass through our community regularly as they visit one of the
tightest concentrations anywhere of both famous and little-known breaks,
including Avellanas, Playa Negra, Callejones, Arbolito, Playa Junquillal
and Playa Grande. When the waves are breaking in front of the Iguanazul,
the surfers provide great entertainment and photo ops for hotel guests.
Besides the great sunsets, guests also enjoy watching passing cruise ships
and fishing boats, as well as occasional humpback whale sightings and sea
turtles coming ashore to lay their eggs on area beaches.
Along with great surfing, the
waters here are world-renowned fishing grounds. Spend a day trolling the
waters for marlin, sailfish, wahoo, tuna and dorado.
Not into surfing or fishing?
Prefer your fun on land? Two beautiful golf courses Hacienda Pinilla and
Conchal are within a 30-minute drive north of the Iguanazul. And local
trails and beaches enable hikers and horseback riders to see howler
monkeys, iguanas, multi-colored squirrels and hundreds of species of birds
and butterflies in their natural habitat. Had too much sun already today
for any more outdoor activity? Check out the Iguanazul rec room for pool
or ping-pong.
The hotel offers 20 air-conditioned rooms, and four
without AC. Iguanazul is clustered oceanside around a freeform pool. Also
available are two-bedroom villas in a 10-unit condominium with its own
pool, as well as studio apartments in a new building within the Iguanazul
resort community. Both are within a short walk of the hotel and are
desirable for longer stays and group bookings for events such as weddings,
anniversaries and reunions. See our rates page for pricing per night per
person, depending on the unit and the season.
The Iguanazul works with several
local partners in providing a wide array of activities and one- or two-day
adventure trips. These include visits to national parks, volcanoes and
waterfalls, kayaking, river rafting, nature hikes, fishing, horseback
riding, tree canopy zip-lines, and of course surfing.
Ask our friendly and knowledgeable
staff for help with all your adventure needs. And above all, enjoy your
visit to our little piece of paradise.
